The decision to close our brick & mortar store

Business is changing…fast. It seems like every few months you have to reassess your business plan and make major changes. While Reese and Rose is a new brand, our company has been in business since 1935. I have witnessed many of the ups and downs that come along with running your own business. My best advice is this- if you seeing something changing, it already has, and you’re already behind.

That notion marked the decision to officially close our brick & mortar store.

My mom ran Sammy’s Fabulous Jewelry as a jewelry and dress boutique for nearly 7 years. She chose to retire from the store last year, and we sold off the dress inventory.

However, we still had a lease. So we closed the doors for a while to focus on wholesale, but that doesn’t pay the rent. We re-opened the storefront, but it was and is still an incredible struggle to get anyone to come in the door.

This may seem like bad news, but it’s actually a great time and opportunity for us. The Reese and Rose brand is in its infancy. We have a lot of wholesale customers who love this new brand, and we have received a lot of re-orders and positive feedback.

Our lease is up at the end of July. We will be moving to a small office, and the rent and expenses will be exceptionally lower than where we are now. This will enable me to work more efficiently online. Due to our high expenses every month, I find myself always having to push back my product launches online. Moving will give me the chance to work from home more and focus on a great e-commerce experience.

Consistency is key. I haven’t been able to maintain a consistent online & e-commerce experience because I have been burning the candle at both ends. You cannot do everything. I am excited to see what the future brings, and how I can create an even better online experience for my customers. What kinds of things would you like to see from Reese and Rose in the future? This week’s favorite things

I can’t believe we’re already at October 10th! It seems like everything is flying by. So I wanted to take a moment and write about this week’s favorite things. Here are my favorite things from the office to great recipes:

1. Swarovski jewelry. We are currently in production with our holiday 2015 line. These beautiful pieces embellished with crystals from swarovski will dress up any outfit this season. I can’t wait for them to hit the website soon!
